Writing a Strong Psychotherapy Case Study

Online CPD Workshop for UKCP, CTA, Humanistic & Integrative Trainees

Preparing your psychotherapy case study can feel overwhelming. Many trainees struggle not because they lack clinical ability, but because they are unclear about what examiners are actually looking for — and how to present their work in a coherent, convincing and relational way.

Led by Alistair Berlin, this practical online workshop offers clear, clinically grounded guidance for trainees preparing for CTA or UKCP psychotherapy case studies, as well as earlier-stage trainees who want to strengthen their understanding of case study writing from the outset.

Although rooted in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy, the principles explored are equally relevant to trainees from humanistic and integrative psychotherapy trainings.

What We Will Explore

Across the workshop, we will look at:

  • Creating a coherent through-line from diagnosis, formulation and treatment planning to contracting and intervention

  • Demonstrating Deconfusion in a clear and convincing way

  • What makes a case study genuinely relational

  • Using clinical examples to demonstrate ethical practice and awareness of intersectionality

  • How and when to include your own therapeutic process

  • Using transcripts effectively to evidence therapeutic work and support your analysis

  • The factors that often distinguish stronger case studies from weaker ones
